Bathed in the soft golden light of a September evening, the High Garden at Great Dixter. Viewed over the hedge atop a leaning ladder, the setting sun defines texture and form; illuminating and amplifying the character and traits of every plant, each leaf and flower, all the while gilding a dazzling array of autumnal colours from cannas, cosmos, dahlias and sunflowers. Spikes of Calamagrostis and cloud-like forms of Patrinia catch the light, drawing the eye through the planting to the roofscape and trees beyond.
